Lighting for Architectural Photography

March 18, 2011 By admin

Architectural photographers are able to capture the eye-catching structures of the surrounding areas. The uniqueness, enormity, and sheer cost of these buildings can be portrayed through striking exterior photography. Experienced photographers who has projects, knows that architectural photography is its own art form, and can enhance the appeal of a structure. Corporate photography and industrial photography can depict the professional, attainable quality of your company while attracting the attention of other business professionals or investors. Architectural photographs should never be boring.

For a good architectural photo, lighting is a key component. Lighting can be greatly affected by the weather. Even on a sweltering day with a clear blue sky, heat can create haze on a photo because of how the light is scattered. Photos are more effective when structures have sharp edges across a background.

Placement of a building can affect lighting as well. The sun will hit the facade of the building differently at different points in the day. Some features of a building need light to accentuate their idiosyncrasies and a skilled architectural photographer will take notice of that. Other buildings surrounding the structure can cast shadows at different times of the day that must be taken into account as well.

An interior uses vastly different lighting than a building’s exterior, and an architectural photographer has the sensitivity to use the light against and inside the structure to produce a vastly different quality of photos. A good photographer knows how daylight and the darkness of night will affect a photo.

By choosing a photographer who is used to the particular problems with photographing a city, you will receive a higher quality photo. He knows how the weather affects the buildings and what time of year produces the best sunlight. Smaller cities do not have these specialized photographers, but some cities have an overabundance, so it’s important to distinguish what makes a good architectural photographer. Victor Bernard has the eye and the equipment to produce captivating photos.
